MUZAFFARGARH: A married woman Shabana Mai was allegedly forced to drink acid by her husband and in-laws for returning home late, the police officials said.
According to the police, Shabana, resident of Baily wala in Tehsil Jatoi, went to attend the funeral of her nephew at her family’s house and came back late. This infuriated her husband Arif who along with his family members forced her to drink acid as punishment.
Her condition deteriorated as a result and she was initially taken to Tehsil headquarter hospital where she could not recuperate so she was shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for medical treatment. The police have registered a case against the husband and in-laws of the victim.
However, no arrest has been made in connection with the case till the filing of this report. Every year in Pakistan, many women are subjected to acid attacks. Most common reasons surfacing for such attacks are either suspicion of infidelity or refusal for marriage proposals.
