ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will upgrade its existing educational facilities to serve the marginalised section of society, particularly those living in far-flung regions, said Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui, the vice chancellor.
To achieve this cherished goal, the university decided to strengthen their regional campuses so as to improve quality of education and provide best possible services to its 1.3 million students, this was stated by the vice chancellor while presiding over regional directors’ conference of the Sindh province.
He announced that the regional offices would be given extra support by meeting their financial, technical and human-resource requirements, enabling them to meet their target of maximum students’ enrollment and strengthening students’ support system.
Dr Shahid advised the regional directors to lay greater focus on quality education and upholding the university’s role as a research-based organisation. They should adopt a pro-active approach to provide best possible services to the students in terms of admissions, issuance of certificates and degrees, timely mailing of books and holding of exams, he added.
The conference discussed in detail academic, administrative and other important matters pertaining to the Sindh regions. The regional directors presented detailed reports of their respective regions, relating to admissions, examinations and mailing of books. During the day-long conference, Services Director Regional Dr Arif Salim Arif apprised the VC of the overall performance, achievements and problems of the different regions.
Dr Shahid Siddiqui appreciated the performance of the regional directors and hoped that they would keep up their best efforts to further improve educational facilities in their respective areas. He advised them to utilise all available resources to enhance the image and academic standard of the university. He showed his concern on the low literacy rate in the province and advised them to reach at the doorstep of the people and bring them into the educational net.
On the occasion, the participants showed their grief over the sad demise of University of Sindh vice chancellor Dr Abid Tahirani and prayed for the departed soul.
