NAUNDERO: At a time when the Sindh government announced education emergency in the province, a teacher is running a Government Primary School in village Wazir Ali Phulpoto under shade of trees for the last 33 years.
This shows complete indifference of the authorities concerned who failed to provide even shelter to students, let alone improve the standard of education through emergency. The village is located just 1.5 kilometres away from the ancestral village of former education minister Nisar Khuhro.
Despite repeated requests to him by the villagers, the former minister did nothing for the said school. Nawab Ali Kunbhar, the primary teacher of the school, told the Daily Times that this school was being run under the shade of trees in summers since 1983. Jinsar Ali Kumbhar, another teacher of this school, expired three years ago, he said.
Children of poor farmers: So far, no replacement has been provided, hence Nawab alone is teaching over 100 students enrolled in the school from primary class 1 to 5. The teacher said that most of the students were children of poor farmers. He said that Rs 25,000 was given out of SMC funds annually and that is utilized in raising pillars and nets since this meager amount was not enough to construct a building.
Ibrahim Shah and Illahi Bux, notables of the village, said that their village was facing step-motherly treatment by the government as buildings have been constructed for the schools in all nearby and adjacent villages. They also said that four to five teachers have also been posted there (in nearby villages).
“Our village is constantly being neglected on political grounds which is unjust and exposes discriminatory attitude of our rulers,” they said. They demanded of the government to provide building to the school forthwith so that poor people and their kids do not suffer any more.
